Centennial Park and Gymnastics

In 1996, Atlanta hosted the Centennial Summer Olympic Games. J. R. had been part of the Georgia Tech Olympic Coalition, which was the steering committee dedicated to greeting IOC members when they visited campus and was part of Tech's planning committee for the Summer Olympic Village. As the Olympics neared, we purchased tickets for the opening round of women's gymnastics. We had hoped to get tickets to the swim competition at Georgia Tech, but with Janie eight months pregnant with Thomas, we elected for an indoor event. We headed downtown on MARTA early in the morning and headed to Centennial Olympic Park to see the Olympic ring fountain. Then we went to the Georgia Dome for the gymnastics competition.
