After the Castle tour, we walked down towards the University of Edinburgh. Since Alex had forgotten to bring the directions, we had to stop in a KFC for lunch and to use the free wi-fi. After setting our bearings, we found the Visitor's office for our tour. The trip to the University had been the main purpose of our trip, since Alex had already been accepted, but the tour turned out to be a disappointment. Alex was unimpressed with the architecture of the school, which in some places resembled some of the finest examples of Soviet-era buildings in the Western Hemisphere. This left Alex a bit depressed so we headed back to the hotel to talk to Mom. The highlight of the day for J. R. (and lowlight for Alex), was when he plopped down on the bed and proceeded to bang his head hard into the wall, which had been there since the day we had checked in.
Following the talk with Janie, we went out to "Biblio" for dinner, which was a casual restaurant near the campus. Alex had a beer with his fish and chips and we talked about his reasons for wanting to come to Edinburgh and realized that a lot of his disappointment was that Edinburgh was not "Oxford", which is where he really wanted to go. So Edinburgh went back on the list. We went back to the hotel after dinner and turned on "Dave" to watch some Top Gear, QI and other BBC comedies before turning in for the night.
