Tony Azevedo Clinic

Rebecca kicked off her high school water polo season by attending a clinic with Olympians Tony Azevedo and Kami Clark.

Myrtle Beach

For Spring Break, Rebecca and a friend joined another friend for a few days in Myrtle Beach.

Rebecca's Birthday

For Rebecca's Sweet Sixteen, we rented a table at The Melting Pot and Rebecca and her friends dressed up for a night out.

Hamilton

To celebrate the ladies' birthdays, we went downtown to the Grand Lux Cafe for breakfast, where Janie was disappointed that the Red Velvet Pancakes were no longer on the menu, although Rebecca was in heaven with her chicken and waffles. After brunch, it was off for a matinee performance of Hamilton: An American Musical.

J. R.'s Birthday

For J. R.'s birthday, the ladies took him to Sullivan's in downtown Naperville for steak and dessert.

Imagine Dragons

Janie and Rebecca headed to the Hollywood Casino Ampitheatre to see Imagine Dragons in concert.

Kenny Chesney

Our second trip to Soldier Field was for a country concert with Old Dominion, Thomas Rhett and Kenny Chesney.

August: Chicago Bears

We finally made it to Soldier Field for a Bears game, this time a pre-season contest against Georgia Tech's Harrison Butker and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Luke Bryan

Becca and J. R. headed to Wrigley Field to see Luke Bryan in concert. Our seats weren't the best and a rainstorm cut short Sam Hunt's set but we still had a great time.

Maroon 5

As payback for the Kenny Chesney concern, J. R. accompanied the ladies to a Maroon 5 concert at the United Center.

Driving to Texas

Alex finished his master's degree in Durham and took a teaching position at a private high school in San Antonio, Texas. He bought our old Ford off us and J. R. and he took a weekend to drive it down to Texas.

Michigan

Rebecca's college visits continued with a trip to Ann Arbor to tour the University of Michigan, where we also took in a game at the "Big House" against SMU. It was 90+ degrees so we only stayed through the end of the third quarter.

Sugar Factory

Since we couldn't visit the Sugar Factory when we went downtown earlier in the month, we took advantage of being at the airport for Rebecca's Global Entry interview and let her have a fizzy drink.

Apple Picking

As the weather turned to fall, we made the trip out to Dekalb to Jonamac Orchard for an afternoon of apple picking, a trip to the corn maze, and some apple cider donuts and apple wine.

Halloween

Rebecca decided at the last minute to dress up as Cher from the movie Clueless so we headed to the mall, of course, for Halloween for a little shopping and dinner.

University of Chicago

Janie and Rebecca visited the University of Chicago as part of her college planning.

Thanksgiving

Alex flew up to Chicago a few days before Thanksgiving and then the four of us drove down to Atlanta. We picked up Thomas at Georgia Tech and joined Janie's dad for Thanksgiving dinner in Peachtree City. On the way back out of town, we stopped by the Georgia Aquarium.

Georgia Tech Basketball

The Georgia Tech basketball team was playing Northwestern in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge, so we made the drive to Evanston to watch our alma mater play. Tech fell behind early but rallied in the second period, falling just short of a victory.

ODP Water Polo

Rebecca joined a few teammates at the USA Water Polo ODP camp in Schaumburg, where she earned a spot to play in the ODP regional tournament in North Carolina in January.

Christmas

The whole family returned to Bolingbrook for Christmas

Quick Lane Bowl

While the Georgia Tech football team was not happy about traveling to Detroit for a bowl game, it meant we were able to see them in person for the first time in years. The game was a disappointment due to the final score, but we got to see Paul Johnson's last game as coach.
