A Day at the Beach

As usual, we started with breakfast in Cabanas then had to hang out in the room and wait for our 'virtual boarding group' to be called. We forgot our IDs so we had to make two trips down and then Janie's Key to the World card did not work. And we never needed to show our IDs the whole day. The virtual boarding idea was poorly implemented. The DCL app had connectivity problems and neither Bethany or J. R. could join the queue but Alex and Janie had the option.

Once on the island, Janie and J. R. walked over to the family beach to catch a tram to Serenity Bay. We found a pair of loungers and reserved one for Alex who was taking some photos. He joined us a little later while Bethany was taking a run and he and his mother went out in the water.

Bethany finished her run and she and Alex went off to try to catch one of their friends at the family beach. J. R. and Janie lounged around drinking Konk Koolers until lunch time. There was a long line for lunch and in true Disney guest fashion, people saving tables instead of waiting until their party had their food. We've found some of the worst entitled guests cruise Disney. We found a table in the back as it was starting to drizzle. Alex would later tell us it rained hard on the family beach.

Eventually Bethany and Alex joined us at our chairs and they headed off to the ocean. Janie and J. R. called it a day around 1:30 and headed back to the ship after a little shopping.

Martinis

J. R. was able to get a reservation for martini tasting, which is something Janie wanted to do. But she was already booked for Stem to Stern Wine Tasting with Bethany. So Alex and J. R. booked the martini tasting and then Alex took Janie's place tasting wines so Janie could taste martinis. Our first martini was a classic vodka martini with dry vermouth and Ciroc vodka. Then we switched to gin and had a Hendricks and vermouth martini which Janie surprisingly liked (even though she doesn't like gin). Sebastian, our tasting leader, mentioned Beefeater would be a little sweeter or J&J to be more fruity. Another option would be Monkey 47 which has a molasses taste. The third martini went to Janie because it was too fruity for J. R. It was made of 2 parts Absolut Pear, 1 part Limoncello and a splash of Grappa. The next martini was also fruity and Janie ended up with two of those as well. It was made of Tanquery gin, lemon juice, raspberry puree and amaretto. Finally we finished off with a chocolate martini made from Absolut vanilla, Frangelico and Godiva chocolate liquour.

Janie and J. R. waited in La Piazza where Janie marked that bar off her list by having a drink.

Ship Time

We had some ship time after the martini tasting and went up on deck where J. R. got a drink from the Cove Cafe (and some sweets) while Janie had a drink from the pool bar. We stopped by Sweet On You but didn't see anything worth the extra cost.

Last Night on Board

Dinner was in Royal Court tonight. We were again very happy with the food and service. Janie was even able to get the Sticky Fig Pudding from Enchanted Garden when J. R. pointed out it was available there.

J. R. and Alex had a bourbon tasting after dinner so they headed up to Outlook while the ladies went to The Tube for another round of Match Your Mate. The bourbon tasting featured Woodford Reserve, Four Roses Single Barrel, Maker's Mark and Knob Creek, so nothing special for J. R. Alex decided the Maker's Mark was his favorite.
