We took a drive up to St. Augustine on a Saturday morning and after driving around for awhile, found a parking space and took a short stroll over to Flagler College. We couldn't get inside thanks to Covid, but we took some photos of the old Ponce de Leon hotel, which now is part of the college.
We strolled down King Street to the shoreline and then wandered back up through the college.
Janie wanted to take the chocolate tour at Whetstone, so J. R. booked it the night before. It was a very informative tour with a funny guide who treated us to a variety of chocolates as he taught us about how they were made. We bought a few treats for ourselves on our way out.
We walked through the main shopping street and visited a few shops and then walked back to our car through City Hall, which at one time was the Alcazar Hotel.
We had planned to go to the beach in the afternoon, but as we drove up the coast, rain started forming offshore. Janie had found a restaurant called "The Reef" up the A1A so we drove there. We had asked for a table on the patio and were at first disappointed they put us inside by a window instead, but as the winds picked up and the dark skies moved in, we understood their decision. The food and service were very good and the waiter even brought us over some items from their brunch buffet even though we didn't order the buffet.
We drove back to St. Augustine because J. R. had wanted to go to the distillery. We couldn't find a place to park to do the tour, which was disappointing, but we did find a 15 minute shopping space, so we went in and were able to taste a bourbon and decided to buy it. Then we drove south along the shore to Daytona Beach before turning inland past the Speedway (and a quick stop at Buc-ee's).
