After Janie's mom broke her hip in a fall, we made a last minute visit to her in Pahrump. While most of the trip was spent visiting her in the hospital, we got a chance to have dinner at Emeril's in the MGM Grand and visit some of the hotels on the Strip.
We returned to Las Vegas in July for Gale's birthday, but unfortunately she had to go back into the hospital shortly before we arrived. So we spent some time with her there and also continued with our previously arranged plans. In preparation for our trip to Peru in the fall, we wanted to do a little high altitude hiking so after stopping by the hospital to check on Gale, we drove to Mount Charleston and did a short hike
After a few days in Pahrump, we had booked a few nights at the Bellagio. We had always wanted to stay there but it was a bit disappointing. The rooms were dated, including having an old iPod alarm clock on the bedside table. We also were displeased most of the restaurants were not available on Monday and Tuesday and the only open bar was at the pool on in the casino.
J. R. snagged a reservation for Hell's Kitchen. We were disappointed to be seated in the back where we could not see the show kitchens, which is the purpose of the restaurant. We were not sure why they designed the place that way. The food was good, especially the Beef Wellington, although the scallops needed a little seasoning. The sticky toffee pudding was excellent.
The great part of staying at the Bellagio was we were able to walk right out onto the driveway to watch the Independence Day fireworks over Caesar's Palace, as well as the Bellagio fountain show.
On our last day, we walked through some of the other hotels, including the Cosmopolitan, which we really liked and would probably the next hotel we stay at when we come back to Las Vegas.
