To Boston

Rebecca needed help getting all of her stuff back to Boston, plus collecting all of the items she had left with a friend over the summer, so we planned a quick weekend trip to help her set up her new apartment. The plan was to fly in on Thursday, do some shopping for her, and then move her in on Saturday. American Airlines wrecked that plan as they announced just as we were about to board a plane to Miami that there was a serious maintenance issue with the plane and the flight was likely to be cancelled. The 'likely' caused issues as American would not rebook us on another airline until the flight was actually cancelled and they had no other flights with three seats for that day. So we ended up having to fly to Miami on a later flight, stay overnight, and then fly to Boston via Charlotte the next morning. To make matters worse, they sent one of Rebecca's bags to Boston on another flight, one of ours to Miami on a different flight and the other three flew with us. So we had to wait an extra hour in Miami to claim our bags. We got a rental car and drove in traffic to Cheesecake Factory and stayed at a airport Holiday Inn.

The change in schedule also caused us issues with our rental car at Hertz would not hold the reservation and they had no cars available the next day at the airport. J. R. was able to get a reservation from a location nearby, but they closed at 6PM. So, of course our flight from Charlotte was delayed and we landed in Boston after 5PM. J. R. raced out of the airport to get an Uber to take him the Hertz site and arrived at 5:45PM while the ladies dealt with getting the baggage from baggage claim as well as the one that was sent early. Finally in Boston on Friday night, we drove to Legal Sea Foods for a great seafood dinner before heading to our hotel.

Moving In and Fenway Park

Saturday started with a short shopping spree for Rebecca at Target and Home Depot to pick up things she needed for new apartment. We went there first and got her keys and dropped off those items and her luggage. After all that unloading, we found a place to eat in Harvard Square before taking the T to Fenway Park to watch J. R.'s Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Red Sox in an afternoon matinee. Becca got a Red Sox cap and had ice cream served in a mini batting helmet. After the game, we went back to Harvard Square looking for food but everything was crowded so we went back to the mall near out hotel and found a sports bar to watch football before bed.

On Sunday, we headed to Becca's friend's apartment to pickup her refrigerator and other items she had stored there over the summer. Then we had to take all of that to her new apartment. There wasn't room in the SUV so Janie and Becca drove to the new place and J. R. walked the mile back. After all that unloading and a quick lunch stop and a grocery stop for Rebecca, we said goodbye to her so she could start unpacking and went back to the hotel before our flight home the next morning.
