Tivoli Gardens

Exotic architecture, historic buildings, lush gardens and thrill rides like the wooden roller coaster, one of only seven with a brakeman and the Demon taking you on a journey through a Chinese universe with fire-spitting dragons and fireworks.

The Little Mermaid

At Langelinje Pier you will find the 100-year-old sculpture of The Little Mermaid. The bronze and granite sculpture was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a handsome prince on land.

The Citadel

Founded by Danish King Christian 4 in 1626, today, the buildings inside the Citadel are used as military barracks and offices. However, the area is open to the public and a favourite green lung for a brisk walk or jog on the ramparts.

City Hall Tower

At 105 metres, Copenhagen City Hall is one of the tallest buildings in Copenhagen. There are about 300 steps from the sidewalk and up to the tower, which gives you a view of Tivoli Gardens and the inner city.

Rosenborg Castle

This 17th century castle features Knights’ Hall with coronation thrones and life-size silver lions and the collection of Flora Danica and Venetian glass. See the four sets of crown jewels, embellished with gold ornamentation.

Amalienborg Castle

See the changing of the Royal Guard at noon. Around the square are the homes of the Crown Prince and Queen and the guest palace, which also houses the museum, and the rooms of Christian IX and Queen Louise.

The Round Tower

The observatory is encircled by an outdoor platform up a 230m spiral walk. The hall features exhibitions of art, culture, history and science. You can see the tower's core by standing on a glass floor, 25m above ground.

Nyhavn

Originally, Nyhavn was a commercial port but now the beautiful old houses have been renovated and restaurants dominate the old port. Hans Christian Andersen, lived in no. 20 when he wrote some of his most famous works.

Strøget

Strøget from City Hall Square to Kongens Nytorv is one of Europe's longest pedestrian streets. You will see many attractions, like Helligåndskirken, Church of Our Lady, the court house and the Stork Fountain.

The King's Garden

Inside the park is the Hercules Pavillon, and the statue of Hans Christian Andersen. The gardens are home to a large herbaceous border, a rose-garden and sculptures. In 2001 the Renaissance garden Krumspringet was added.

Christiansborg Palace

The baroque palace has survived several devastating fires. When the Queen hosts parties, white horses ride in front of the Gold carriage in gala harness. The harness museum features former royal carriages and Christian V’s horse and Frederik VIIs beloved horse, Pearl.

Gefion Fountain

According to an ancient legend, Gefion was the goddess who ploughed the island of Zealand out of Sweden. The Swedish king Gylfe offered the goddess Gefion as much land as she was capable of ploughing within one day and one night.

Royal Danish Library

The building's shiny, black facets mirror the sea and the sky. A large incision cleaves the building into two formations and gives light to the atrium inside. The glass facade is held by iron girders weighing a metric ton.

Liberty Column

A 20m Obelisque erected in memory of the peasant reforms that led to the abolition of adscription. The four female figures symbolize Bravery, Civic Virtue, Fidelity and The Cultivation of Land.

The Danish Parliament

Folketinget is the legislative power. Tickets for a free guided tour of 45 minutes can be picked up from 10.00 in the morning on the day of the guided tour on a first come first served basis.

The Danish Jewish Museum

The opening exhibition is a broad presentation of Jewish life in Denmark. The emblem and concept of the museum interior is the Hebrew word 'Mitzvah', which can be translated as obligation or good deed.

Thorvaldsens Museum

Vivid colours and grand architectural design characterise the museum which houses the works of Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsenhouses and his sculptures which represents Roman gods and famous historical personages.

Copenhagen Zoo

Get familiar with the iconic giant pandas while dining in the state of the art Panda House. Experience unforgettable close encounters with polar bears and see the world from a giraffe’s perspective.

The National Museum

The Prince’s Palace Gallery is a wide corridor linking rooms. The ceiling stucco, panels and oak parquet floor are thought to be original. The museum boasts a collection of antiquities, a coin / medal collection, and a toy museum.

SMK - The National Gallery of Denmark

Enjoy the royal collections, tours, performances, art talks, concerts, workshops and more. SMK is famous for its collection of Danish Golden Age art, Danish contemporary art and one of the world’s best Matisse collections.

Glyptoteket

The Antiquities Department houses 3500 years of Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman art while the Modern focuses on Danish painting, sculpture and art including works by Gauguin, Degas and Rodin.

Botanical Garden

The garden contains more than 13,000 species including Danish plants and flowers, a rhododendron garden and Butterfly House. The most notable glasshouse is the 16-meter tall, 1874 Palm House with its cast-iron spiral stairs.

Geological Museum

Discover the forces which have shaped our planet. See one of the world's best meteorite collections, a piece of the moon brought home by Apollo 17, fossils, plants and the geological evolution of Denmark.

ARKEN Museum of Modern Art

In the artificial Køge Bay Beach, the building portrays a stranded ship. The museum café hangs like a lifeboat on the side of the building and through the large panoramic windows overlooks Køge Bay.

Tycho Brahe Planetarium

Space Theatre's domed screen takes you on a journey to the universe, to the dinosaur era, below sea level and more. Each film starts with a presentation of the current starry sky.

Alternative Christiania

Freetown Christiania is an alternative neighborhood. Places to eat include Morgenstedet and Spiseloppen. Visitors should not take photos in Christiania, especially around Pusher Street.

Church of Our Lady

Above the altar, Christ extends his arms in a welcome, while the apostles watch. According to legend, Thorvaldsen resented his statues were in the niches and made them so tall they had to be placed on the floor.

Designmuseum Denmark

Displays of decorative art, crafts, and industrial designs from the Western world and Asia from the late Middle Ages and up to the present fill what once was the first public hospital in Denmark.

St. Alban's Church

The Anglican church was erected in 1887 in British gothic style. The site of the church is due to its royal connections - the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, was married to a Danish princess.

The Marble Church

The Church with its copper green dome is one of the most impressive in the city. The foundation stone was laid in 1749 as part of a grand plan of making a new city district called Frederiksstaden.

Kalvebod Bølge

The promenade rises to different levels and stretches out into the harbour providing space for a range of water activities. Kalvebod Bølge consists of smaller activity zones and pools with many possible sports.

Islands Brygge Harbour Bath

On hot days, Copenhageners swim with the city's skyline in view. There are five pools in all. The shallowest pool is 30 cm deep. The diving towers are one, three, and five metres high respectively.

Visit Carlsberg

Closed in 2018 for renovation to turn Carlsberg’s home into an inspiring and innovative place. Jacobsen’s brewery will continue to brew Jacobsen beer, but Jacobsen Restaurant and Bar is closed.

Frederiksberg Gardens

At the main entrance, visitors are received by Frederik VI, a former king beloved by his people. In the waters of the beautiful garden he used to be rowed about on the canals saluting the people. Boat tours operate all summer.

Reffen - Copenhagen Street Food

Reffen is a street food market with more than 50 food stalls, bars and creative workshops. There is access to the water, which is perfect for enjoying your dishes and drinks with front row views of Copenhagen harbor.

The Royal Danish Opera House

The Opera House is clad with limestone and the foyer features Sicilian Perlatino marble. The wall facing the foyer is clad with maple wood, and the ceiling in the main auditorium is adorned with 24 carat gold leaf.

Christianshavn

Christianshavn, an area of small islands, is known for its hip cafe culture and canals lined with colorful houseboats.

Amber Museum

Copenhagen Amber Museum is one of the most recognised amber museums in the world. The museum is located in Kanneworff’s House in Nyhavn, and is one of Copenhagen’s oldest and most charming buildings dating back to 1606.

Bakkehuset

Discover the home which became a hub for some of the prominent authors of the Danish Golden Age including Hans Christian Andersen, Adam Oehlenschläger, and Hans Christian Ørsted.

Architecture Center

The exhibitions at DAC showcase the latest international trends in architecture with exhibitions about masters of architecture like Frank Gehry and SANAA and Danish studios like BIG and 3XN.

Centre of Contemporary Art

Den Frie was founded by artists in 1898 and is one of the oldest venues for contemporary art in Denmark. It is in itself a unique and very beautiful wooden building designed by famous artist J.F. Willumsen.

Andersen Fairy Tale House

Discover the world of Hans Christian Andersen, see how his childhood in Odense unfolded, his move to Copenhagen and his many journeys which served as inspiration for his fairy tales.

Kunstforeningen Gl. Strand

A modern exhibition hall with an extensive history, Gl Strand was renovated in 2010 and has reopened its doors for a newly refurbished and future exhibition space.

Kunsthal Charlottenborg

A historical extention to Charlottenborg Palace, Kunsthal Charlottenborg is one of the most beautiful exhibition spaces for contemporary art.

Medical Museion

The Medical Museion, former Medical History Museum is located in the former Royal Academy of Surgeons from 1787 and presents a variety of topics from the history of medicine: epidemics, x-ray, surgery, psychiatry etc.

Nikolaj Kunsthal

The church is one of the oldest churches in the city, yet it does not function as a church anymore. Outside, you will see a sign saying 'I'm not a church' while the inside is full of creative art and performance.

Nordatlantens Brygge

North Atlantic House is an art center where you can encounter North Atlantic culture, research and business. Here, people from the North Atlantic, and the rest of the world meet and inspire one another.

Museum for Humor and Satire

Alhambra tells the story of over 150 years of entertainment. The permanent collection features silent film, costumes, posters and effects as well as sound recordings and film clips.

Storm P. Museum

The Museum houses an exhibition of Robert Storm Petersen (Storm P), including drawings and paintings, ranging from the sociocritical satire of his early years to the newspaper drawings of his later years.

Cisternerne

Deep beneath Søndermarken's grass is a massive underground space, where daylight never reaches. You will find a dark, cold and moist underground world resembling the cathedrals and gloomy catacombs.

Music Museum

The Museum features a collection of European, Asian, South American and African musical instruments from the 16th to the 20th centuries as well as a library, archives and a collection of visual art.

Hirschsprung Collection

Hirschsprung stands as a unique presentation of Danish art from the 19th and 20th centuries, spanning the Danish Golden Age to the Skagen painters and the Modern Breakthrough.

War Museum

Travel with a Danish soldier to Afghanistan, explore the models of warships from the Danish fleet, explore stories of 21 Danish wars over 500 years and look at our treasury, which holds unique war clips from around the world.

Theatre Museum

Costumes, set designs, models, paintings and photos illustrating the history of Danish theatre. In 1772 after a masquerade, Queen Caroline and her lover were arrested and charged with lèse-majesté.

Victorian Home

Step into the past and visit a luxury flat of original interiors, fully equipped in 1890 in late-Victorian style, including authentic living rooms, dining room, bedrooms, kitchen with pantry and larder, servants quarters, and even a bathroom.

Workers Museum

In the Union and Meeting building, experience life of the working class. In the 1950’s coffee shop, try out the coffee substitute used during WWII with a Danish chocolate biscuit cake or enjoy a Star beer from the Danish brewery.

Bakken

The world's oldest amusement park is located in the lush woodlands of Jægersborg Dyrehave, where you find yourself surrounded by 400-year-old trees and almost 2,000 free range deer as well asroller coasters, ferris wheels, drop towers, and more.

Circus Museum

Explore behind the scenes of the wonderful world of circus at the exhibition, packed with surprises and interaction. Try and walk in the clown’s footsteps, experience the magic of conjuring tricks or step into the ring yourself.

Danish Museum of Science and Technology

Take a trip back in time and follow the fast evolution of machines and technology. No matter if you’re seven years old and fascinated with trains or have a nerdy interest in robots, this museum is a treasure case ready to open.

Esrum Abbey and Møllegård

Esrum Abbey is the remains of a large Cistercian Monastery from the Middle Ages. Go to the abbey's basement for unique gastronomic experiences, buy local ingredients and visit the abbey’s garden.

Experimentarium

Highlights include the “Tunnel of Senses”, where you experience your senses unfold and fade away. In 'The Bubblearium' blow amazing soap bubbles and ‘The Idea Company’ lets you build prototypes of your inventions.

Falkonergården

Museum with indoor and outdoor performances. Visitors can see displays with falcons, hawks and eagles at a very close distance. The programme starts punctually at the stated time with a brief intro to the history of falconry.

Frederiksborg Castle

The rooms of portraits, paintings, furniture, and art invite visitors on a journey through Danish history from the Middle Ages. The Castle Gardens were laid out as a romantic landscaped garden. In the garden you will find King Frederik 2's small Bath House Castle.

Frederikssund Museum

Located just above Crown Prince Frederiks Bro at Hornsherred in the historic red building from 1893. In the late 1900s, the old Færgegård (ferry house) was used as a guesthouse that was often rented to families with children who would like to experience the fjord.

GL Holtegaard

In a beautiful 18th century manor house, you find an art venue, where ambitions are to show traditional, modern and contemporary art with a message to convey to modern man.

Helsingør Museum

The City Museum of Helsingør is located in the Carmelite house (1520). The exhibitions show a selection of the city’s exciting history from the Middle Ages until today.

Jægerspris Castle

Memorial rooms to King Frederik VII and his wife Countess Danner, Orphanage history department and exhibitions of ancient Danish gold. The castle park is decorated with memorial columns and Countess Danner’s tomb, and it is open all year.

Karen Blixen Museum

Rungstedlund is the house where author Karen Blixen was born and it was here that she wrote all her internationally renowned stories. The area has been set aside as a bird sanctuary, which is open to the public.

Køge Museum

Meet the two young deckhands Jens and Pelle, who died along with 600 others when the warship Dannebroge blew up in 1710 and sank with everyone on board. Recreate your own experience with our ultra modern digital guides.

KØS Museum of Art in Public Spaces

Come and enjoy the superb architecture of the museum; enjoy some refreshments in the café and visit our shop with its innovative, designled items. See the original model of The Little Mermaid and the cartoons for the Queen’s tapestries by Bjørn Nørgaard.

Kronborg Castle

The most famous Danish castle, thanks to Hamlet, towers on a promontory in Northern Zealand, facing the sound between Elsinore and Helsingborg in Sweden. Grand fortifications used to protect the Danish land from unwanted visitors.

Lejre Land of Legends

A unique and stunningly beautiful open air museum, which offers its visitors to embark on a journey through time and space. The experimental centre features a series of reconstructed settlements, houses, and active workshops from the Iron, Stone, and Viking Ages.

Lejre Museum

According to written sources, it was in the area surrounding Lejre Museum that the birth of the Danish realm took place. Here you find the first line of Danish kings, Skjoldungerne, who had their base during the Iron Age and the Viking Age in Denmark.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

Besides the permanent collection, the museum has 8-12 special exhibitions annually. Enjoy lunch or dinner at the cafe, on the terrace or in the sculpture garden with a view across the sound to Sweden.

Maritime Museum

The museum is located in front of Kronborg Castle in Elsinore and is shaped like an enormous ship. It is built under the ground around an old dry dock. Experience the story of Denmark as one of the world's leading maritime nations through eight different themes.

Mosede Fort Denmark

Travel back to WWI and explore the surprising stories as Denmark is fighting for its neutrality to avoid being drawn into war. The Danish welfare state is born when politicians intervene to keep the population united, while profiteers making huge sums of money off war.

Munkeruphus

Munkeruphus is a former artist’s house, idyllically situated overlooking the Sound between Gilleleje and Dronningmølle. The listed building, which was the home and workplace of the hybrid artist Gunnar Aagaard Andersen (1919-1986), has changing exhibitions.

Museum of Contemporary Art

The museum collects artworks and documentation which show new directions in art. The documentation center plays an important role in understanding the historical background of the museums activities.

National Aquarium Denmark

Experience the Ocean Tank where hammerhead sharks swim with rays and moray eels, The Coral Reef's colorful fish and coral-dwellers and Amazonas, with butterflies and birds flying around. Under the waterfall, 3,000 piranhas and anacondas swim.

Open Air Museum

Spread across 86 acres, the museum houses 50 farms, mills and houses re-erected with gardens and landscape to give visitors an impression of the history and environments of country life as it was.

Øresund Aquarium

A small saltwater aquarium in Helsingør/Elsinore where you can experience the marine life of the Øresund, including colorful fish, sharks, rays, squid and lobsters.

Ragnarock

Centered around music, the museum tells the story about youth culture from the 50’s until today. The museum is situated in a new building with golden rivets that gleam in the sun, and with a long red carpet that leads all the way up to the entrance.

Roskilde Cathedral

The magnificent red-brick cathedral with its impressive tall spires is considered one of Denmark’s most important architectural monuments, and it is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Roskilde Museum

Experience the story of one of Denmark's oldest and most significant cities seen through unique archaeological finds and exciting newer objects - a narrative of national importance.

Skibsklarerergaarden

The museum describes the grand time of prosperity, Sundtoldtiden. The house is the best-preserved merchant’s house and shipbroker house, dating back to the 16th century, but the condition it is in now, dates back to 1780 and the following decades.

Shipyard Museum

Helsingør Shipyard Museum is a story about hard work, noise, pride, and solidarity in times past where the shipyard whistle controlled the life of the city. Economic as well as work wise, socially, culturally and politically the shipyard was the natural central point.

Skt. Laurentius

Sankt Laurentii with its brick floor is situated 2 meters below Stændertorvet. In the church ruin there is a small museum with archaeological findings from the excavation of 1998. Like the other medieval churches in Roskilde, Sankt Laurentii is made of travertine.

Tadre Mølle

Tadre Mølle owns 12 acres of national protected nature, and today the mill is both a nature center and a cultural historical museum.

Tegner Museum and State Park

View the works of Danish sculptor Rudolph Tegner in a museum was built by the artist. Today several hundred pieces of his art is on display at the museum and in the surrounding garden. His sculptures are monumental and intense.

Vedbæk Finds Museum

In groundbreaking excavations from the 1970’s archaeologists discovered ancient settlements and graves on the shores of the Stone Age Fjord that once cut deeply into the coast where the town of Vedbæk now overlooks the Sound.

Viking Ship Museum

Get a peek into the life of the Vikings that have become very symbolic for the Scandinavian countries. You will easily be awed when faced with the museum’s five original Viking ships whose remains have survived all these years.

Willumsens Museum

See the collection of artist J. F. Willumsen's painting, drawings, ceramics, sculptures, photographies and architecture. Besides the artworks, the small, idyllic sculpture park outside is a great spot for a break under the skies.

Zoological Museum

Evolution is Denmark's largest exhibition on Darwin and evolution and explores the origin of the millions of species on Earth. Darwin's path to his theory guides you through a multitude of animals, skeletons and fossils.
