Chef Mickey's

One of the places we always try to eat at when at Walt Disney World is Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary Resort. Eating there sets the tone for our Disney trips and gets us our 'character fix' (even though Alex is dismayed by the removal of Peanut Butter & Jelly pizza from the menu.)

Magic Kingdom

Following our fill of Mickey waffles and donut holes, we drove over to the Magic Kingdom for the opening. Mickey welcomed us in and we went to Space Mountain after picking up FastPasses for Buzz Lightyear. We were able to loop through Space Mountain a couple of times before going through Buzz in the regular line, then using our FastPasses. Following that, we visited New Fantasyland including the new Little Mermaid ride. We were fairly unimpressed as it was just another ride-through like most of the Fantasyland rides and certainly not worth the long lines. We spent most of the morning at the Magic Kingdom, stopping for lunch at Pecos Bill's and riding Pirates and Haunted Mansion before driving over to Epcot for the evening.

Epcot

At Epcot, we were disappointed by the lines for the revised Test Track. It had apparently broken down so the queue was over 120 minutes and not moving so we left and went to Mission Space. Following that we took a trip through Ellen's Energy Adventure. The lines for Test Track had diminished so we did the 90 minute wait for that next. The new queue area was uninspiring but the kiosks where you design your own car are cool. Alex and J. R. designed a car with 'power' first and efficiency last. Unfortunately, the after-ride kiosks where you could mail your design home were not working so we couldn't get a copy of our design.

Dinner was in the Mexico pavilion. The food was good but not great and not really any more inspiring or different than the local Mexican restaurants, which are half the price.
