Alex and Bethany left the ship early for their long-delayed excursion to Chichen Itza. It had been planned as part of their honeymoon cruise that had been cancelled by Covid multiple times. Janie and Rebecca had an excursion planned that was cancelled by RCL the day before so we ended up just spending most of the day on the ship. We started off our day with breakfast and some morning miniature golf.
After golfing, we attended morning trivia at Bolero's and scored our first victory in general knowledge trivia. We followed that up with a perfect score in Name That Tune Songs with Color trivia.
Rebecca wanted some pool time, but Thomas agreed to join us for a small excursion to the shopping area at the Progreso port. The actual city was 10 minutes away on what was billed as the world's largest cruise pier, so we just stayed near the ship. We quickly got tired of all of the people trying to pull us into their shops and there weren't any good bars, so we went back onboard.
Alabama was taking on Cincinnati in the College Football Playoff so Rebecca was repping her Crimson Tide in the morning before changing into a red swimsuit to watch the game by the pool. J. R. and Thomas headed to the Duck and Dog for a few Boston Ice Teas and other drinks while watching the game. Eventually Rebecca got too hot and came down as well, as did Janie. Alex and Bethany joined in once they returned from their excursion and had lunch.
The nighttime show was Bobby Brooks Wilson, son of Motown singer Jackie Wilson. None of us are big soul or Motown fans, but he had a lot of energy and it was good show, even if he got a little pitchy at the end as he tired out.
After the show, we headed to dinner where they had New Year's Eve beads and hats laid out for us. We made Thomas wear a hat even though it was way too small for his head.
We had drinks after dinner and then went up on deck for the New Year's Eve party. It was very windy on the top deck, so we went back down to the lower deck to do a little dancing and listen to the music. RCL handed out champagne and we toasted goodbye to 2021 with hopes for a better 2022.
After the deck party, Janie and J. R. went down to see the late night comedy show with Thomas. The comedian was pretty funny but had the same problem of most 'adult' comedians - being blue just for the sake of it.
