Today was another port we had been highly anticipating, Roatan, Honduras. We got an early breakfast in the buffet because we needed to get off the ship as soon we could to meet our excursion from Victor Bodden Tours. We exited the ship and found the tour stand and were joined by a few other couples. Two of the fellow guests had previously lived in Solivita, making it the second straight cruise where we met former residents of our community. We were taken on a tour of the island, which we could have skipped, especially when the driver tried to pass a water truck on a hill and swerved in the path of an oncoming vehicle and lost control, causing it to hit the rear of our van. We were worried this would impact our early arrival at the Monkey and Sloth Sanctuary, but luckily the damage did not make the van inoperable.
We made it to the sanctuary and were taken into a cage where two monkeys were cavorting. The monkey would jump from person to person to collect his sunflower seeds from the trainer. He seemed to especially like Janie, or at least her blue dress, as he kept jumping back onto her shoulder.
Next it was off to see the parrots and other tropical birds, where J. R. got to say "Janie, there's a bird on your head".
Of course, there was a main reason for us wanting to come here, and that was to annoy our daughter by getting to hug her favorite animal, the sloth. We walked back to their enclosure, where we each had a few minutes to hug the adorable creature and also see them hanging out and eating. The highlight was seeing the baby sloth hanging onto his mother as he chewed on a leaf.
Our tour finished up with a walk past a number of other rescue animals, including some rodents of unusual size which are apparently quite common on the island.
We were driven next to Henry Morgan Hotel and Beach Resort, where we were greeted by white sands and plenty of sunshine. We found some loungers under a sun shade and drank local beer and soda and chilled for several hours before the short ride back to the ship.
After showers and a few drinks at the Martini Bar, we attended the Broadway Caberet show which had been postponed earlier in the week. This is another show we had seen on another ship, and while we enjoyed it, we don't understand why it couldn't be different songs from different musicals, given how good the singers are at a variety of music and the vast array of Broadway and West End hits. We had dinner in Tuscan Grille again. We had already booked this before we boarded and decided to keep it even though we had gone earlier in the week since it gave us a change to order some different food items this time. It had been a long day and even though we usually enjoy the Full Moon Party, we decided to just have a drink after dinner and head to the room.
