Rainforest and Waterfall Explorer

Morning Drive

After our excursion yesterday, we were less than enthused about going on another excursion from the same company, but this one was much better. We were driven all of the island in a bus viewing a variety of waterfalls as well as a botanical garden.

Coastline

We started off with a drive along the Kona and Kohala coast through the Parker Ranch lands and the town of Waimea.

Rainbow Falls

Waianuene, or Rainbow, Falls is a 80-foot high waterfall just west of Hilo.

OK Farms

Our lunch stop was at OK Farms, located in the area of Rainbow Falls. We sampled local coffee and macadamia nuts along with a variety of fruits, had a box lunch, and hiked across a bridge to a field where we were surrounded by native chickens.

Akaka Falls

Our next stop was at Akaka Falls State Park where we viewed the park's two waterfalls, the Kahuna and Akaka falls.

Tropical Botanic Garden

Finally we were driven to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden which featured over 2,000 species of tropical plants. This garden stop also featured the Onomea Falls, a three-tiered waterfall, which was the most beautiful we had seen that day.
