Kaua'i: Waimea Canyon

Drive to Hanapepe

First off on our second day in Kaua'i was an early morning breakfast buffet before walking off the ship to meet in the terminal building for our planned excursion to Waimea Canyon. We had gone back and forth about cancelling this one based on some of our earlier excursions and because we had seen the Grand Canyon already, but this turned out to be a very cool place to visit with little similarity to Arizona despite the canyon's nickname of 'the Grand Canyon of the Pacific".

We boarded our bus on the dock in Kaua'i for our excursion to Waimea Canyon and other sites in Kaua'i.

Hanapepe Canyon Overlook

Our first stop was at the Hanapepe Canyon Overlook just outside the town of Hanapepe. After Hanapepe, we boarded the bus again, this time on our way to Waimea Canyon.

Waimea Canyon

Finally we arrived at Waimea Canyon, the "Grand Canyon of Hawai'i".

Driving around Kaua'i

After our stop at the canyon, we climbed back on the bus for a tour around the island of Kaua'i.

Spouting Horn

We arrived on the south shore of Kaua'i, where we stopped at the Spouting Horn blowhole. The surf channels into a natural lava tube and releases a spout of water during large swells.

Driving back to the ship

After our stop at the blowhole, we boarded the bus for the last time for the drive back to the port and the Pride of America.

Na Pali Coast

Upon returning to the ship, we dressed for dinner and then prepared for the ship's approach to the Na Pali Coast. This is a fifteen mile stretch of coastline with sheer cliffs that drop straight into the ocean. The Pride of America would be making a close pass-by so we could view the cliffs.

Last Night on the Pride of America

After dinner, we turned in for the night for the last time aboard the Pride of America.
