After our boys had their own Spring Break adventure in Germany, we decided to travel to Orlando for the break with Rebecca to spend some time at Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. With an extra day off, we flew out Friday afternoon and arrived in Orlando around 4:30. After a wait for our luggage and a mistake at Avis (they told us our car was in a specific location, which housed a two-door Mustang instead of the Toyota Corolla on our contract), we headed off to Disney World. Rebecca was disappointed we didn't just take the Mustang, but a two-door car really wasn't what we needed and we weren't interested in paying the extra fuel charges, even if they had let us off the lot with it.
We made a quick stop at Publix in Celebration for provisions for the week and then headed to our hotel, the All-Star Sports resort. Disney's new 'web check-in' meant we already knew our room number, so we headed straight to the Touchdown building and were able to enter our room using our Disney MagicBand, which was pretty sweet. Unfortunately, the sweetness stopped there as we had to go to the lobby to get our parking pass. The line for 'web checkin' was long and not moving as they were having issues with the two guests at the front of the line. Another cast member came over to help us, but she was clueless about web check-in. She tried to claim we didn't have charging privileges set up, when we did, and when I told her we had PIN numbers assigned already, suddenly she realized her error. She then told us we were 'all set' which is when I asked about our parking pass, the only reason we came down, and we got an 'oh, I'll print that for you'. We never got our welcome packet that other guests were getting, but by now we were running late, so we didn't push it.
We had reservations at Raglan Road for dinner so we drove to Downtown Disney. With the construction, this put us way behind schedule and we foolishly followed the parking signs to the Casting lot instead of the parking deck, which meant a walk and a wait to be allowed to cross the street to Downtown Disney. We hustled to Raglan Road and arrived a few minutes late. This meant another 15 minute wait to be seated. But all was well once the food arrived, which was very good, and the Irish dancers put on a very good show, which was unexpected (we didn't know there was entertainment during dinner).
We strolled around and did some shopping after dinner, with Rebecca picking up some Minnie ears and Janie stopping by Basin for some bath supplies. We then did the long walk back to the parking lot and drove back to the All-Star resort to get ready for our first day at Disney.
