We made the decision to bail on early entry this morning, which was at Magic Kingdom, and instead go the Disney Studios for regular opening time at 8AM. This allowed us to sleep in an hour. Our first target was Rock 'N' Roller Coaster, which was pretty much a walk-on that time of the morning. Then we headed over to Toy Story Midway Mania, which was advertising a 90-minute wait. Since we hadn't reserved a FastPass for that, we decided to wait in line, which usually moved fast. Unfortunately, they had a break-down and we were stuck standing in one place for about 15 minutes. Disney is adding a second track for this ride which should alleviate some of the wait, although I am unclear why this ride is such a hot attraction.
We walked around the back to take some pictures at the Cinderella carriage, but we'd left the camera in the car, so all we got were cell phone photos. Then we went to Star Tours, which was a 25-30 minute wait. We missed Hoth this time, but ended up on Coruscant again. Lunch was next on our list since breakfast had been Pop-Tarts and protein bars again. We wanted to go to the backlot, but it didn't open until 11:30 so we ended up at the ABC commissary for some burgers. The food there was never good and today was no exception. It was then we realized how little there was to actually do at the Studios. With the backlot tour gone and animation turned into just a walk-through of exhibits, the park seemed smaller. I know there are plans for a new land where the backlot used to be and that should restore the Studios to full-day status. We walked through the animation shop and then did our FastPass for Rock 'N' Roller Coaster. We tried to do the animation tour, and that was when we learned there wasn't much left of the old tour -- not even an animator on duty drawing any more. We stood in line for Little Mermaid, but we just missed the show by one group and didn't want to stand in line for 20 more minutes, so we went and got a muffin and a Mickey bar before our Star Tours FastPass. After Star Tours, it was time for Muppets, which was pretty much a walk-on, and then J. R. got some coffee from Starbucks and the girls had some drinks and we sat for awhile and relaxed before Tower of Terror. J. R. gets sick on this ride, so he begged off, so the girls rode it and then Rebecca used her dad's MagicBand to ride it again herself.
