Trivia and Reception

Rebecca rose bright and early at 6:30 to go for a run with her new friend group. The adults slept in and skipped breakfast due to Palo brunch planned for later in the morning. So around 9AM, we went to the Promenade Lounge for a round of Disney Trivia. We didn't do too badly but didn't see how some people got perfect scores because some of the questions were really obscure. We did realize later in the cruise that a lot of the questions were recycled from other cruises so people may have remembered the answers. DCL was holding a reception in the theater for Gold and Platinum Castaway Club members so we went up there next. There was free champagne and then they showed us some scenes from The Golden Mickey's show. J. R. was hoping for a little more backstage action as they promised but they just walked through the cues from the audio booth and didn't really show a lot of the set pieces being moved.

Anyone Can Cook

After that, we went to the "Anyone Can Cook" demonstration in D Lounge where the Chef de Cuisine from Tiana's Place was making Lobster Ravioli. We was really funny and the food was quite good.

Palo and Day at Sea

The lobster ravioli made a nice appetizer for our planned brunch at Palo. Palo was excellent food, as always, although we had hoped they might add some more regional specialties to the menu. We'll probably skip Palo on our next cruise if the menu doesn't change. After Palo, we decided to do some crafts, making a Mardi Gras mask. Rebecca was hanging out with her group making masks as well, so J. R. made a Captain America mask to annoy her while Janie made a fluffy one. We attended a naturalist presentation by Doug Jones at 2PM where he discussed the Icefields and Glaciers we would be seeing later in the trip. His presentation was very informative and got us excited for what we would see later in the week.

Wandering on the Wonder

It was time to kick back and relax in the afternoon, so we all went our separate ways until it was time for the Welcome Reception in the lobby at 5:15. That meant free drinks, so we had a few of those and stood out on deck 4 and watched the scenery.

The Golden Mickey's and Dinner

We then settled in for tonight's show, The Golden Mickeys. It had been awhile since we had seen this one but it didn't seem that much different than it had been the last time we had seen it. We hit the second Captain's reception for another free drink or two and then got in line for dinner at Animator's Palate. It was "show night" which meant the restaurant started out black and white and slowly colored through the night, ending in full color photos at the end. We were disappointed the wait staff no longer changes into colored vests at the end, which they had still done on the Magic in December. It was always a special touch that added to the colorized vibe of the restaurant. Rebecca and Janie tried the Black Truffle Pasta Pursiettes while J. R. had the Alaskan Smoked Salmon Tartar as an appetizer and he and Rebecca had the Creamy Butternut Squash Soup next. The main course for J. R. was an Angus Beef Tenderloin, cooked medium rare since DCL tends to overcook meats. Rebecca had the Pumpkin Strogranoff and Janie the Smoked Pork Loin Steak with venison sausage. Janie had to try the Sticky Date Pudding while Rebecca opted for a Mickey Bar with sprinkles.

After dinner, we went to Azure to watch "Match Your Mate" which was funny and wait for our friends, the Coffeys. We had met them on our cruise in December and had a couple of tastings with them and ran into Kristen in the shop earlier in the week and decided to have a drink with them tonight. They didn't make it to the club until late in the show because apparently their dinner service was incredibly slow. But we finished up our drinks and ordered another and talked for awhile before moving over to the Crown and Fin. We were going to order another drink when we were told the place was already closed for a private party. We saw a lot of cast members passing through a door and worried we were holding up a cast party by hanging out in the bar after hours, so we said goodnight and went to bed around 1AM.
