The itinerary had us going into Tracy Arm fjord this morning but late the previous day, the Captain said the ice was too bad and we would instead be rerouted into Endicott Arm to see the Dawes Glacier. Sofia told us we would enter the arm around 5AM(!) and be at the Glacier by 7AM. J. R. awoke early and went up to the front of deck 10 to take photos and then woke up the family around 6:30 so they would not miss the glacier.
As we turned to leave the glacier, we walked back to Cabana's and ran into Rebecca and her friends. They were discussing mounting an excursion to take over the cruise ship that was coming up behind us. We recommended opening the cannons on the port side to give them a broadside so Captain Zvonimir could be come "Commodore Zvonimir". Janie and J. R. found a table by the aft window and watched the glacier recede while enjoying breakfast. The crew had recovered a block of ice from the fjord and had it sitting near the pool and we walked over and admired its color and smoothness.
Janie went to hear Doug Jones' talk about humpbacks and orcas and J. R. went to the Anyone Can Cook Mushroom Risotto session. The risotto was very good, but it was disappointing to see DCL allow kids into an adult session. We'd told Rebecca she couldn't go to any of the cooking sessions because they were 18+ but apparently this was not enforced on this ship (as it was on the Magic). Again, DCL, if you are going to have rules, enforce them. Otherwise, don't have them so you don't hurt those who follow them.
We thought about doing "Hide and Seek" with the officers but it was pretty crowded with small children so we thought we'd let them have their fun and went off to lunch instead before heading to the pub for a Pub Quiz. We finally had some luck and tied for first and J. R. stepped up for rock-paper-scissors, threw a rock and won a pair of DCL notebooks and the fake leather luggage tags.
Next up was a Cheese Seminar in D Lounge. This was also listed as an Adult activity in the Navigator but there were quite a few kids in here as well.
Janie wanted to the "Art of the Theme" tour and J. R. just wanted to sit and take in scenery, so the adults went their separate ways. Janie enjoyed the tour where she learned more about the decor of the ship and the recent changes made during dry dock.
J. R. went to a Disney Vacation Club seminar, only to hear about the new DVC resorts as we had decided long ago that DVC wasn't for us as we didn't go to Disney World as often any more and cruising on DVC wasn't a deal. Janie joined him there late and, continuing our lucky streak, J. R. won the raffle for a $200 on-board credit. This made him wish he had gone to the $5,000 Mega Jackpot Bingo instead.
We went upstairs and sat for awhile before Susan Egan's show in the theatre. She sang some Broadway standards but the highlight was her singing along live to her animated performance as Meg from Hercules. We tried our hands at 90's Music Trivia but were pretty rubbish. During the 90's, J. R. had a long commute to work, so he listened to mostly books on tape, so he was completely useless. Janie knew a few of the songs and Rebecca sat with her friends and wouldn't help us out.
For dinner, we were in Animator's Palate where they were doing the animation dinner. For this, you draw your own character on a placemat and at the end they animate the characters. We had done this on the Magic in December and aren't impressed with it. We were all done with our meals and desserts before the show started and everyone just wanted to go rather than wait for the animations. Not sure why they can't play them during dinner service over-and-over like they do the other cartoons. Because of the drawings, there was only one appetizer, which was smoked duck breast, shrimp and salmon tartar, which we all had. Rebecca and J. R. also had the tomato and meatball soup. For dinner, J. R. went with the beef wellington, which was good, but wished he had gone for the grilled garlic-marinated shrimp, which Rebecca had and enjoyed. Janie had the rack of lamb, which she said was also very good. Chocolate Decadence was the dessert choice of the night for the ladies and it was very chocolatey.
The adults caught Michael Harrison's adult show, which was funny, although we remembered a lot of the humor from his last show. We also stayed for the Seriously? game show, which was okay, before heading off to bed.
