St. Maarten
The Ascent pulled into St. Maarten early so after breakfast, we went to the theater for our excursion and then gathered on the dock before walking to a van to take us a short distance to our 4x4 excursion. After signing our waivers and a safety briefing, we climbed into our 4x4. Janie decided to drive but first the 4x4 would not go into gear and then slipped at low speeds, making our start harrowing, but soon we were on our way across the island.
Maho Beach
We made our way to the famous Maho Beach where we parked the 4x4 and went to the beach club. This part of the excursion was unorganized as we didn't know where to go to get our drinks and we were not told that seats and umbrellas were an extra charge, so we ended up sitting on a concrete curb. We didn't get to see a large jet land because it was delayed but did see a prop plane come overhead as well as watched two departures. Janie headed out into the blue water for a quick swim.
Overlook
On our way back, we stopped at an overlook and climbed a small hill to get a view of the beach. Janie was enamored by the cats at the entrance beside the pigs. Our 4x4 mates handled the driving on the way back and Janie was happy to see they had the same trouble with the 4x4 she did so it was not user error.
Awaken
The production cast treated us to another wonderful show in the theater, this one called "Awaken".
