Back to Athens

We did the express walkoff from the ship and were off the ship by 7AM. It was a long walk to the car pickup area and once there, it was unclear where to wait as all Celebrity was concerned about were the people on their buses. They made us move twice and then let other people stand right where we had been standing. Our car service let us down and did not arrive on time. We had a 7:30 pickup time and when we emailed the service they said they would be there at 7:45, then 7:50. They arrived at 8:15 which meant we had been standing in the sun for an hour-and-a-half. We made it to our next hotel, where we knew the room would not be ready and dropped off our luggage before making our way to the Metro station.

Lukumades and Areopagus Hill

Our first stop was Lukumades, where this time we only ordered two sets of donuts and opted for the covered ones instead of the filled, which were still quite good. Then we made the long uphill walk to Areopagus Hill. Named after the ancient god of war, Ares, ancient Greeks used to believe that the place was connected to many major mythological events such as the first murder trial conducted by the gods. As a result, the oldest supreme court of Ancient Athens was established on the hill. To this day, the Greek Supreme Court for criminal and civil law is called Areopagus. The hill provided great views of the Acropolis and Athens.

Theatre of Dionysus

On our way down from the hill, we passed along the southern slope of the Acropolis and the theatre before making our way past the museum to the tourist area near the Acropolis Metro. We did a little walking around and visiting shops before settling in at the Athina Tavern for lunch.

Wine Tour

We grabbed the subway back to near our hotel and walked to the hotel. Our room was not ready but they let us go up and sit at the rooftop pool. At first there were only seats at the bar, so we had a couple of sodas but then loungers opened up and we rested. We went down at 3PM to check on our room and it still was not ready. J. R. went to a different check-in clerk who moved us to a room that was ready and we went upstairs to relax.

After our successful Greekality tour earlier in the week, we had booked the Wine and Nightlife tour. So we went back to the subway to head to the meeting point. Along the way, we heard two girls call out Rebecca's name. They were sisters from her sorority also doing a Greek vacation after graduation. We found what we thought was the meeting place in front of the church and met another couple but later found after calling the company that we were supposed to meet in a bar on the other side of the square, even though this was not in any directions. We met "Jenny" at Naked Athens where we had their signature watermelon cocktail. Our next stop was Couleur Locale for another shot and cocktail. We walked through The Art Foundation, a combination lounge and art studio on our way to Brettos Bar, Athens oldest distillery for some more drinks. We tasted a honey & cinnamon liqueur Janie wanted more of, so we went into the shop downstairs where we bought some, along with some honey. We finally made our way to Wine o'Clock, where we sampled four Greek wines along with small bites to accompany them. We said goodbye to Jenny and walked the short distance to the Metro. We were going to Uber from our stop to the hotel because the area was a little sketchy, but there was a good crowd heading our direction from the station so we followed them to the hotel where we bought some sodas and settled in for the night before our flights home the next day.
