Morning on the Ascent

After breakfast and a little time in the Solarium, we attended the Captain's Club Welcome Party in Eden where the Cruise Director and Captain introduced themselves and the Executive Committee and honored some employees and the top cruiser. One of the Eden gymnasts came out and gave us a brief show while we had drinks and a few appetizers.

Backstage Tour

Following the reception was the backstage theater tour where Phoebe, the dance captain and Nico, one of the acrobats, joined one of the singers to talk about life on the ship followed by a tour of the dressing rooms. We've done this a few times now so we think next time we will just come for the Q&A and skip the backstage portion as it is the same on each ship.

Mixology 101

We went upstairs to get some lunch to prepare ourselves for Mixology 101. Our class was taught by Daniil, who we had met on two previous cruises. The drinks were the same as we had made before but it is always a fun class to mix your own drinks. This one was dampened because the ship excursions team and the activities team do not coordinate so we had the loud noise from the Musical Bingo in the Grand Foyer drowning our Daniil, even with the use of the whisper devices. The other issue is they do these in open spaces so people see you at the bar and come up to get a drink. This led to two fun encounters, the first a man who walked in before class and said loudly three or four times "they are setting up for a class", including telling all of us who were waiting for said class. The second was a woman who came up and sat at the bar and when Janie said the bar was closed for a class, asked "then how did you get drinks?"

Evening on the Ascent

We chilled out for a while in our room before dinner in Cosmopolitan. J. R. had the lamb chops, which were dry and oversauced, typical for Celebrity, although Janie's fish was well-cooked. It made for a quick meal so we were able to head to the theater to see Captain Dimitrios give his welcome talk, followed by the cast performance of Bridges. We felt the show was a little off tonight, even though the performers were good. Some of the choreography was out of sync, perhaps due to the bad weather we were passing through and the song choices, particularly in the New York section didn't match the singers.
