It was time to leave French Polynesia behind and begin our five-day journey northwest to Hawai'i. Yes, we were surprised to see that we actually had to travel slightly westward to get from Raietea to Oahu. We spent some more time in the Persian Garden and the Solarium and we once again did morning trivia. We went down at 11AM for the "How to Make Perfect Risotto" session but were not impressed. The chef didn't provide much of a recipe, just saying "now we add some butter", for example, without saying how much butter. With the layout of the room, and arriving just on time with trivia, we couldn't see what he was doing. Disney does these so much better, with cameras over the cooking surface displaying what the chef is doing on TV screens. They also provide printed recipes.
We had a relaxing afternoon after a couple of busy port days, culminating in a win at One Hit Wonder Trivia in the afternoon, where we managed to get almost all of the songs correct as well as the artists. We were lucky since Dom's trivia skewed towards the 80s and 90s and that was a time we spent a lot of time in the car listening to the radio on our commutes.
The show tonight was another of Celebrity's avant-garde productions, Amade. The lead female singer had warned us on our backstage tour not to try to make sense of the story, which we knew from past productions was not likely anyway. The singers, dancers and aerialists were superb as always and we thoroughly enjoyed the production.
After the show, we had dinner plans in Tuscan Grille. Dinner service was a little rocky. We had walked in with cocktails from Ensemble Lounge and we guessed the sommelier thought we already had drinks so he didn't come by our table. We had to ask our waiter to get us some wine and iced tea. When our appetizers arrived, J. R. was served something that did not look like the calamari he ordered and that was because it was pork belly. We suppose those sort of sound alike and the calamari was good when it arrived. We opted for a half-serving of the Three Meat Lasagna and J. R. wished he had ordered it for his meal because it was incredibly delicious. We both ended up with steaks for dinner, J. R. the ribeye and Janie the filet and they were both good, but way too much food for one night. We were a little surprised the menu was the same as our 2019 trip on the Reflection, although the steak sizes were smaller.
Dining at Tuscan meant missing the evening comedy show with Fred Bevill as well as the Guitar Legends session with Alex and the orchestra. We decided instead to head to World Class Bar for a nightcap.
